Project

Retinal degenerative diseases, such as retinitis pigmentosa, are among some of the leading causes of vision loss. While protein-based therapeutic delivery to the retina has shown potential in delaying the onset of blindness, off-target effects and rapid drug clearance are significant barriers to success. My project involves leveraging the specificity of protein interactions to facilitate the sustained release of a protein therapeutic from a hydrogel delivery system, which ultimately serves to reduce vision loss in patients affected by retinal degenerative disease.
